Animation 1 is the first step to getting a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Animation. This workshop is structured and aimed at teaching a solid foundation of animation principles as well as a basic workflow within Autodesk Maya. Animation 1 is perfect for those who are are interested in the field of Animation.
Animation 2 is for students with a strong understanding of the 12 principles of Animation, and want to continue to build their body mechanics skills. Picking up where Animation 1 leaves off, Animation 2 will guide students in applying the fundamentals alongside new concepts and techniques to further their understanding of weight and movement. Learning these skills become critical before moving onto more advanced assignments and pantomime performances in the following class, Animation 3.
Picking up where Animation 2 leaves off, this class will guide students in continuing to build on their physicality and body mechanics skills; while alongside being introduced to the extremely important concept of pantomime acting. No longer just about "How" to move something, we really start diving into thought process and the "why" of movement. This class holds a strong emphasis on character motivated exercises.
Animation 4 is for students with a strong understanding of the body mechanics, and a pantomime acting. Animation 4 begins by learning the "Facial Mechanics" We touch upon how to properly animate the Eyes (variety of blinks, Darts, pupils) brows, and mouth. Expression tests are added to learn how make the entire face works correctly together. Following an understanding of Facial Mechanics; small, focused exercises will help students develop their acting muscles and specific skill sets required to create unique and memorable dialogue shots.
Animation 5 is for students at an advanced level of skill, and focuses solely on acting shots such as 1- and 2-person dialogues and pantomimes. This workshop will show various ways to approach acting for animation and how to try and find meaningful and heartfelt performances. Tips and Tricks, approaches, theories will also be discussed during the blocking, in-progress, and final animation stages. Mini-lectures will cover all aspects of animation along with the weekly critique.
